Babis’s 2nd Chance: Zeman To Name PM On June 6

Andrej Babis and Milos Zeman

Lany, Central Bohemia, May 31 (CTK) – President Milos Zeman will name ANO leader Andrej Babis the prime minister for the second time on June 6, Babis told journalists after meeting Zeman today.

Current Prime Minister Babis said he presumed that after being appointed, he would be given a deadline to a form a new ministerial team. He said his government might ask the Chamber of Deputies for confidence in the week after July 10.

Babis declined to elaborate on the composition of the future government of the Social Democrats (CSSD) and ANO.

He said the situation would be more clear in mid-June, after the results of the Social Democrat referendum on whether to rule along with ANO would be known.

“We discussed various options and names. I do not want to comment on this because it is still not clear. We will certainly wait for the outcome of the referendum,” Babis said.

Zeman promised earlier to appoint Babis for the second time as the prime minister even before the end of the Social Democrat referendum on whether to enter the government with ANO, supported by the Communists.

Zeman repeated that he reckoned with the Social Democrats supporting their joining the government in the referendum.

Zeman is satisfied with the estimates saying that most voting Social Democrats have supported the government, Babis said.

Zeman said earlier he wanted to speed up the creation of the government. He said this step was a pressure on both the CSSD and Babis.

It is presumed that the Social Democrats would support their presence in the government in the referendum. It ends on June 14 and the party will announce its result one day later.
