Prague, April 5 (CTK) – A crowd of 300, mostly young people demanded change in the situation in Slovakia, the dismissal of police president Tibor Gaspar and an independent investigation into the murder of young journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancee at a rally in Prague today.
Speeches were delivered by the Slovaks studying and working in the Czech Republic, Czech civic activist John Bok and pop singer David Koller.
The demonstration was held at the same time as protests in tens of towns in Slovakia and in the world.
“We want to warn of the fact that Slovak society, a part of which we are, is demanding changes. This has only partly been fulfilled,” organiser Samuel Zubo said.
“Slovak politicians are refusing to give up their indirect control of law-enforcement bodies. Hence the historically biggest protest since 1989,” Zubo said.
Kuciak wrote about suspected links between Slovak ruling politicians, dubious entrepreneurs and the mafia. The protests after his killing forced Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-Social Democracy) to resign.
