Bratislava, March 9 (CTK) – The Slovak police have been working hard to solve the recent murder of journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancee, yet major progress has not been made and more and more versions of the tragedy are being developed, Prosecutor General Jaromir Ciznar told journalists today.
“We are doing our utmost,” he said.
Ciznar said he is not satisfied with the present state of the investigation.
An international team dealing with the case might be set up next week, he said.
Ciznar said he talked to his Italian colleagues who showed interest in forming a joint team investigating economic crime.
He said he asked the secret police chief to send him all the available information concerning the case, which the General Prosecution did not have.
Ciznar said he appreciates the work of journalists, however, some of them distorted information and thus discredit the work of the police.
In late February, Kuciak and his partner Martina Kusnirova were shot dead in their house by an unknown perpetrator. In an unfinished story, Kuciak wrote about the businesses and possible subsidy frauds of Italian entrepreneurs based in eastern Slovakia who were linked to the mafia and to close assistants of Fico.
Ciznar criticised the lax reaction to a criminal complaint that Kuciak last year filed against businessman Marian Kocner who allegedly threatened him.
Kuciak wrote on social networks last year that 44 days passed from the filing of his complaint and still this complaint was not allotted to any police officer. After the murder, Kocner dismissed the allegation that he threatened Kuciak.
Special prosecutor Dusan Kovacik told journalists today that 11 people and six legal entities were investigated within the case. There continue to be several versions of how and why the murder was committed, he said.
