Sobotka’s China Trip Shrouded In Secrecy

Prague, Aug 30 (CTK) – Former Czech prime minister Bohuslav Sobotka (Social Democrats, CSSD) spoke with representatives of the diplomacy and self-rule bodies during his visit to China in August, the server Neovlivni.cz writes today.

The trip may be connected with the activities of the Chinese company CEFC, which is close to President Milos Zeman and in which Sobotka’s friend Radek Pokorny works, the server said.

“As a private person I was on a private visit to Beijing, but as a former prime minister I naturally consulted the Czech embassy on the trip and coordinated it with it. I also visited some Czech institutions,” Sobotka said.

Neovlivni.cz writes that Sobotka was received by Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Wang Chao.

The Chinese diplomacy then said they had discussed the project of a new Silk Road. Sobotka also spoke with a former mayor of Beijing and the current representative of the State Development Research Centre Wang A-shun.

The centre said the debate had been devoted to the development of digital technologies in China.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry server said Wang Chao received the head of the Czech Presidential Office, Vratislav Mynar, in July. They discussed bilateral relations, the server said.
