Top 100 Firms Sales Increase Kc2,700 Billion

Prague, June 12 (CTK) – Sales of the Czech Republic’s 100 biggest companies rose annually by 2.4 percent to Kc2,700bn in 2017, while their total profit dropped by 1.1 percent to Kc186bn, Sdruzeni Czech Top 100 association chairman Jan Struz said at a press conference today.

 

Skoda Auto car maker, Agrofert food and agriculture group and CEZ energy group led the Czech Top 100 chart again, Struz said.

 

Skoda Auto registered the highest pre-tax profit of Kc39.1bn last year, which is Kc8.3bn more annually.

 

CEZ ranked second with a Kc22.8bn profit. Unipetrol petrochemical group was third making Kc9.9bn, the association said.

 

Agrofert was the largest employer last year with 32,770 employees. Skoda Auto ranked second employing 31,626 people, and Ceska posta postal service provider gave jobs to 30,807 people.

 

Agrofert employs over 22,000 in the Czech Republic and the rest is abroad, the group said.

 

The association cooperating with TPA Group consulting company presented the gentleman company award which was bestowed upon Rybarstvi Trebon fish company this year for preserving the field’s heritage, supporting education, science and research, and emphasising environment protection.

 

Cement Hranice company won the Czech Stability Award, presented by Bisnode consulting company.

 

A total of 65 of the best-ranking companies in the chart are active in production, with 11 of them making components for motor vehicles, Bisnode head in Czechia and Slovakia Jiri Skopovy said.

 

The share of manufacturing companies in the chart has been growing over the past few years, adding 15 percentage points annually, which is due to the excellent performance of the Czech economy, he said adding that there have been signs of a slowdown.
