Babis: Air Strike On Syrian Regime ‘Unavoidable’

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis Meets US House Speaker Paul Ryan in Prague

Prague, April 14 (CTK) – The Allied air strike in Syria on Friday was unavoidable since the Czech Republic considers chemical arms an unacceptable instrument, especially if used against civilians, Prime Minister Andrej Babis said today.

Babis (ANO) called on the world powers to negotiate on a peaceful solution in Syria.

“The strike against the Syrian regime that attacks the civilian population with chemical arms was unavoidable,” Babis said.

“The first information has revealed that it was conduced accurately and that it hit such installations that serve to manufacture and store chemical arms,” Babis said.

He said the Czech position to the use of chemical arms had been unchanged for 30 years.

“The situation in Syria has been untenable for long. The world powers have to sit at the negotiating table and find a peaceful solution to the conflict,” Babis said.

The air strike, conducted by the USA, Britain and France, was backed by the Czech Foreign Ministry, the EU and NATO.

It was condemned by Russia, an ally of Bashar al-Assad´s regime.
