Babis And Zeman Condemn Trade Mission To Taiwan

Milos Zeman Andrej Babis

A Czech senator’s plan to lead a trade mission to Taiwan has been criticized by the President and Prime Minister.

Senate chairman Jaroslav Kubera has drawn the ire of President Milos Zeman and Prime Minister Andrej Babis.

Zeman and Babis say Mr. Kubera’s trip will hurt Czech-China relations. And are demanding he cancels it.

Kubera plans to lead a trade delegation to Taiwan after the presidential election next year. Zeman warns that China will retaliate against any companies part of the Kuber delegation. Kubera dismissed Zeman’s statement.

China asserts Taiwan is Chinese territory and vows never to allow Taiwan independence. However, Taiwan has been independent since 1949, with its own government and democratic system.
