Liberty Ostrava Appoints New Executive Director

Aleksandr Ivanov has been appointed the new executive director of the Liberty Ostrava (LO) metallurgical company. He worked for 20 years in the management of various companies, most recently as a director of the production in the Ukrainian integrated smelter Krivoy Rog.

Until the end of last year, the smelter was led by CEO Pascal Genest. After he left for personal reasons, his position was temporarily taken over by Paramjit Kahlon, who is the general director of the smelters and mining companies of the Liberty Steel Group, to which the Ostrava smelter belongs. He now takes over the management of LO Ivanov, in his position he will report to the company’s board of directors.

“I am very excited at the opportunity ahead of us at Ostrava. I will be working with the employees, the management team and all our stakeholders to deliver our ambitious plan for the plant’s long-term sustainability, which is aligned to the GREENSTEEL and CN30 visions. I am looking forward to accelerating our efforts to commission the plant’s new hybrid furnaces and build the high voltage power line, which are a core part of our transformational investment strategy“, said Ivanov.

Kahlon said he knew that Ivanov was able to effectively lead the LO to further development. “I believe that the Ostrava team will lead towards the optimization of production and the fulfillment of the company’s vision to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030,” said Kahlon.

LO produces steel mainly for the construction, engineering, and petrochemical industries. Its annual production capacity is 3.6 million tons of steel. Even with its subsidiaries, the company has 6,000 employees. Since 2019, it has belonged to the Liberty Steel Group from the GFG Alliance of the British entrepreneur Sanjeev Gupta.
