The candidate of the coalitions Together (ODS, KDU-ČSL, TOP 09) and Pirates with Mayors and Independents (STAN) for the post of President of the new Chamber of Deputies will be the head of TOP 09 Markéta Pekarová Adamová. This was announced by the chairman of the ODS, Petr Fiala. He also added that the incumbent government of Andrej Babiš should no longer make key decisions with budgetary implications
Together with Pirates, STAN will offer two seats to the YES Vice-Speakers, which corresponds to the election result, according to Fiala. On the contrary, according to him, the SPD should not have the position of vice-president. “If we respect the principles of proportional representation in the leadership of the Chamber of Deputies, and if the YES movement, as the strongest club in the future opposition, has two vice-presidents, then it does not work out in numbers,” he said.
According to Spolu and Pirates, the new Chamber of Deputies should have six vice-presidents with STAN, except for two of the YES and one each of the ODS, KDU-ČSL, Pirátů, and STAN. The current lower house has five vice-presidents, from the KSČM, CSSD, ODS, SPD, and the Pirate Party.
According to Fiala, Pekarová Adamová will be a worthy representative of the Chamber of Deputies. “She has the experience, she knows how the Chamber of Deputies works, and I think that with her political career she has been proving all the time that she will be a cultured and good representative of all deputies who sit in the Chamber of Deputies,” he said.
The proposal was also supported by Pirates with Mayors. “We understand this and we think that Markéta Pekarová Adamová will also be a symbol of change in the leadership of the Chamber of Deputies,” said STAN head Vít Rakušan. He criticized “the performances of the current chairman Radek Vondráček (YES)”.
Fiala also said that the outgoing government of Andrej Babiš (ANO) should no longer make key decisions with budgetary implications. He answered a question about military purchases.
“I am convinced that the government should not make key decisions. They are making decisions with an impact on the budget, such steps are not happy, “said Fiala.
The military wants to buy 210 infantry fighting vehicles. The Ministry of Defense expects to pay up to 52 billion crowns for them. Four companies approached with an offer to participate in the tender. In June, it extended the deadline for companies to submit binding offers. The contract could not be concluded until the October parliamentary elections.
