PPF Group, owner of Skoda Transportation in Pilsen, has acquired a 50 percent stake in Temsa, Turkey’s leading producer of buses and light trucks.
According to the Pilsen company, the acquisition was closed last week. Škoda Transportation is now preparing a business and product strategy for mutual cooperation in individual markets. The Turkish market is interesting for the Pilsen manufacturer of trams, trolleybuses, trains, and metro cars. Dozens of his trams run there in two cities.
Temsa produces over 10,000 coaches, buses, and light trucks a year at its Adana plant. It operates in almost 70 markets worldwide, including the USA, Great Britain, France, Germany, and Italy. It has two different electric buses ready for series production. According to Škoda spokesman Michal Tobrman, the fleet of 14 Škoda battery trams in the Turkish city of Eskişehir has traveled two million kilometers in two years. The value of the contract concluded in September 2016, then reached 700 million crowns. The low-floor cars, which can accommodate up to 276 passengers, are equipped with powerful traction batteries for driving on routes without trolleys.
For the sixth year in a row, the fully low-floor Škoda ForCity Classic trams have transported passengers in the Turkish city of Konya, where Škoda Transportation has delivered 60 trams and 12 battery-powered trams. The 2013 contract for more than 3.4 billion crowns was one of the group’s most important export orders for trams. The overhead tram project prepared by the city of Konya on the Alaaddin-Soud line won an award in the International Transport Association’s public transport project competition.
