Jan Bednář’s logistics company ShipMonk has acquired the Mexican company El Mar Mexico and expands outside the United States for the first time. The value of the transaction was not stated by the company. Bednář has previously said that even thanks to recent acquisitions, the value of his company will most likely exceed or has already exceeded one billion dollars, the value at which companies are considered unicorns.
Thanks to the acquisition, the American company will increase its transport and storage capacities. The company should announce another acquisition soon. In addition to the expansion in the United States, ShipMonk is preparing to enter European soil for the first time, next year.
According to Bednář, global growth not only expands the scope of operations, but also diversifies the customer base. “The more new locations and opportunities we have, the better we can help customers with seamless scaling and expansion into new areas,” says ShipMonk founder Bednář. According to Bednář, the international expansion, for which ShipMonk received $ 355 million in the last year, also helps to solve the shortage of workers in warehouses.
ShipMonk offers merchants to take on all responsibilities with order management, inventory tracking in the warehouse and the handling of various unexpected events, such as current logistics delays. In this area, ShipMonk is already the world leader for small and medium-sized companies.
Since its inception in 2014, ShipMonk has been based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and employs more than 1,200 people in its U.S. operations.
