Skoda Transportation Expected To Acquire Alstom Plant

The end of the exclusive negotiation period for the Alstom site’s takeover in Reichshoffen (750 employees) in the Bas-Rhin is approaching. The Czech mechanical and electrical construction company Skoda Transportation is the latest potential buyer in the running for this plant of the French manufacturer of rail transport equipment and infrastructure (2019 revenue: € 8.1 billion; 38,900 employees, including 9,000 in France).

Before December 2020, the Spanish railway manufacturer CAF was still among the candidates. Skoda Transportation has until the second half of April 2021 to file a letter of intent. The negotiation period has already been extended several times, from January to March 2021, then from March to April. This assignment was requested by the European Commission, as a condition of the buyout, in early January 2021, of Bombardier Transport, the rail division of Canadian Bombardier, by Alstom. The Reichshoffen site produces, in particular, the Regiolis trains.
