Vesa Equity Investment Ups Its Stake In French Retailer Casino

Private equity firm Vesa Equity Investment increased its holdings in French retail group Casino to 5.64 percent from 4.63 percent.

Mr. Kretinsky and Mr. Tkac secured the additional shares via Vesa Equity Investment on 17 January.

Since September, Křetínský and Tkáč have had a 4.63 percent share in a French company and now have increased it to 5.64 percent.

Casino is a leading retailer in the French market. It has 12,000 stores worldwide, mainly in France but also in Latin America. Net sales for the year 2018 reached EUR 36.6 billion (over CZK 920 billion), and the group employs around 220,000 people worldwide.

Tkáč and Křetínský have long been investing in retail, wholesale, and e-commerce companies. Through EP Global Commerce, they hold 29.99 percent of the shares of the German Metro chain and co-own a 40 percent stake in the Mall Group.

Křetínský is the majority owner and chairman of the board of the Energy and Industrial Holding (EPH). Mr. Kretinsky also has investments in Czech Media Invest, EC Investments, which owns 40% of Mall Group. He is also chairman of the Board of AC Sparta Praha football.

Tkáč is Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of J&T International Banking Group, Chairman of the Board of Directors of J&T Bank, and a significant shareholder of J&T Private Equity Group, EP Global Commerce, Czech Media Invest and Mall Group.
