Coronavirus Forces Hyundai Nošovice To Extend Closure

Hyundai has extended the closure of its Nošovice plant until 14 April amid the coronavirus pandemic. Production was initially suspended on 23 March.

Hyundai Nošovice employs approximately 3,300 people, with about 8700 employees working for subcontractors.

Hyundai also discontinued production in the United States and India. But the company’s South Korean factories continue to operate at full capacity.

The Nošovice plant is the only Hyundai plant in the European Union. In March, the automaker started production of the Kona Electric, the first mass-produced electric car in the Czech Republic. The plant also manufactures the Hyundai Tucson and the Hyundai i30. The factory builds 1,500 vehicles a day. In 2019 it shipped 309,500 autos.
