Jan Becher Sees Revenue, Profit Drop

Jan Becher Pernod Ricard’s sales and profit fell in the same year. In the financial year ending in June this year, the Karlovy Vary liqueur producer reported sales of 1.073 billion crowns, which was 124 million crowns less than in the previous year. Profit before tax reached 122 million crowns, a year earlier it was 221 million. This was told to the Seznam Seznam server by the company’s CEO Anna Beriashvili. According to her, the main reasons for the decline are the closure of restaurants and bars, the tendency towards cheaper types of alcohol, but also the lack of tourists in the Czech Republic.

“We went through an extraordinary year. Long restrictions and the absence of tourism had, of course, had a negative impact on our sales. Our turnover fell by about 11 percent,” the director told the website. In the context of the whole year, however, he evaluates the results as positive

“The pandemic changed everything around us,” she said. She added that consumption shifted from companies to households, and especially at the beginning of the pandemic, the sensitivity of Czechs to price increased significantly and they preferred cheaper types of alcohol.

The volume of Becherovka production also decreased slightly last year. Last year, the liqueur produced five million liters, a year earlier it was 5.4 million liters.

The company exports two thirds of its production abroad. There, despite restrictions and covid, she managed to increase sales slightly there last year, as did sales of imported brands, which rose by 4.9 percent, the website writes.

Jan Becher Pernod Ricard is a company with Czech roots and worldwide operations. It is part of the French concern Pernod Ricard, the second largest producer of spirits and wine in the world. The company’s flagship is the herbal liqueur Becherovka, which is produced in Karlovy Vary and exported to more than 40 countries around the world. On the Czech market, however, Jan Becher Pernod Ricard distributes more than 50 premium world alcohol brands such as Jameson, Beefeater, Havana Club, Absolut and others.
