Meopta Optika Cuts 200 More Jobs

Meopta Optika plans to make two hundred more employees redundant due to a decline in orders. The company initially laid off two hundred staff in early May. The latest round of layoffs brings total job losses to four hundred or twenty percent of its two thousand employees.

Meopta Optika is a manufacturer of optical, optomechanical and optoelectronic products. From precision medical and scientific instruments to digital cinematic projectors, aerospace technologies, military weapon systems, and consumer sports optics, Meopta manufacturers products across a broad spectrum of markets and industries.

Exports account for 89 percent of the company’s sales. The company exports its products to over 50 countries, including the European Union, the United States, and Israel.

Meopta Optika’s revenues in 2018 grew by four percent year-on-year to 2.465 billion crowns. However, the company had a loss of 57.5 million crowns after a net profit of 160 million crowns in 2017. The company has not released its 2019 financial results.
