US Regulator Files Renewed Antitrust Lawsuit Against Facebook

The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) today filed a new antitrust lawsuit against the US Internet company Facebook. The Commission claims that Facebook is abusing its dominant market position to stifle competition. The court rejected the original version of the FTC lawsuit in June.

The new version of the lawsuit continues to include allegations that Facebook used the takeover of Instagram and WhatsApp to strengthen its monopoly position. The FTC is also still working on legal action, which could include requiring Facebook to sell Instagram and WhatsApp.

The new FTC lawsuit also contains additional data and evidence to support the allegations. Facebook said on Twitter that it was studying the FTC’s amended lawsuit and would comment on it soon.

Facebook is the largest Internet social network in the world. He bought the Instagram photo-sharing application in 2012 and the WhatsApp communication application in 2014.
